Stainless steel glass railing

Many design choices

High quality glass railing in stainless steel

Our stainless steel glass railing ST Prime is made of high quality materials and has a classic design. For indoors we use stainless steel quality AISI 304, and for outdoors we’re using AISI 316L (acid-proof stainless steel).

Variations

You can customize our stainless steel glass railing to your liking: With or without handrail, the look of the handrail, how to assemble your railing (on top or on the side) and which kind of glass you want. This is just some of the choices you can make in our design tool.

With or without handrail

ST Prime can be ordered with or without handrail. Handrails are available in stainless steel and wood (oak or jatoba). If you don’t want a handrail you’ll be able to choose the height of the glass in relation to the posts which you will see in 3D before you make the decision.

Glass

Our glass railings are always delivered with safe, laminated glass that are 8,76 mm thick and has sanded and polished edges. Laminated glass consists of two glass sheets with plastic film in between, which means that the glass sticks together even if one of the sheets should break.

You can choose between clear glass or colored lamellae in gray or opal (coloured or frosted foil between the glass panes). If you are going to assemble the railing in an environment where it will be exposed to repeated external impacts, you can choose a tempered and laminated glass.

Placement on floor/outside

The stainless steel glass railing can be assembled either on the floor, standing, or on the outside, hanging. Top assembly means that the post has a foot and a foot cover. To assemble outside, the post is held by a post holder.

Windshield

You can opt for wind protection for any number of sections of the railing. The windshields glasses are 80 cm thick and the height is either 160 cm or 180 cm depending on your choice.

Design tool

When you enter your measurements and make your design choices in our design tool you’ll get to see all changes to the railing directly – in both 3D and as a drawing. This will ensure you how the railing will will look when its final before you place your order.

You have the opportunity to save your railing, double check your measurements and whenever you want to log in to adjust your previous inputs and choices. You can also send the product as a quote to your e-mail, so that you can easily compare different railings or discuss within the family before you place the order.

Easy to assemble

We’ve worked a lot to make our railings easy to assemble. All screws and other fastening details are included. Our measurement templates specifies how the posts should be placed in relation to the dimensions you indicated.

You also get how to assemble videos. The videos are specially designed for your railing and show the steps you should follow during the entire installation.

Maintenance

Stainless steel can, despite its name, rust if you don’t maintain it. If you follow our easy maintenance instructions you’ll manage to make your railing look stunning for a long time to come. If the railing is severely exposed to wind or salty conditions it needs maintenance more often. If you want a glass railing where maintenance is close to none, you should take a look at Alu Modern or Alu Classic.

CE marked railing

Our stainless steel railings are CE marked which meets the requirement of the European standard EN 1090-1. More information about the CE-mark.

Technical details

CE-marked posts

The posts have been tested for top-down and lateral attachment to wooden base, and can withstand loads of 0.5-1.0 kN/m.

Round 42 mm

Round posts in stainless steel with a diameter of 42 mm. For indoor use: AISI 304 and for outdoor use: AISI 316.

Stainless steel AISI 304/316

If your stainless steel railing is to be installed indoors, stainless AISI 304 is used for the posts. If, however, it's to be mounted outdoors, AISI 316 is used instead, as it is acid-resistant stainless steel.

Steel thickness 2 mm

Stainless steel handrail

Round handrail in stainless steel (42mm) AISI 304 for indoor use and AISI 316 for outdoor use. Parts included for any corners. Available in lengths of up to 4.4 m. Longer handrails come in several pieces that are joined with a stylish pipe connector.

Wooden handrail

Round handrail (43 mm) in untreated light oak or jatoba (a hard wood with an appearance similar to teak and with similar characteristics).

Corners

At corners, the wooden handrail should be turned manually, to ensure the fit is accurate. For stainless steel handrails at an angle of more than 90 degrees, corner parts are included.

8.76 mm laminated glass

Two 4 millimetre glass panes with a plastic film between them. If the glass breaks, the plastic film ensures it stays together as one part. Comes with ground and polished edges.

8.76 mm toughened laminated glass

Same construction as our standard laminated glass, but with two tempered glass panes instead of one. We recommend this glass for environments in which the barrier may be exposed to repeated external stress. Comes with ground and polished edges.

Glass options (colour)

When designing your barrier, you can also choose the type of glass. You can choose between clear glass or colored lamellae in gray or opal (coloured or frosted foil between the glass panes).

Indoor clamps

If your railing is to be installed indoors, the clamps are made of zinc with a stainless steel finish.

Outdoor clamps

If the railing is to be mounted outdoors, just like the rest of the railing, the clamps are made of acid-resistant stainless steel (AISI 316).

Square or rounded

When designing your railing, you can choose whether you want square or round clamps.

Symmetrical sections

When entering your measurements into our configurator, always enter the outside measurements of the spot in which you wish to place your railing. Our configurator will then make the necessary adjustments. We then adjust the section measurements so that each section on each respective side is the same length. So we adapt your railing to your measurements, not the other way around.

Customisable railing height

In our configurator, you can choose a railing height between 800 mm and 1100 mm from the ground to the top of the railing. The Swedish Housing Agency's standards dictate that if there is a risk of falling from a height of more than 3 metres, then the railings must be 1100 mm tall.

Millimetre perfect

When you enter your measurements, we ask you to do so in millimetres. We create your railing to the millimetre, so that it's a perfect fit for where you want to place it.

Adaptation for pitched roofs

You can choose to adapt your railing according to any beginning or end of a pitched roof. We can produce glass with a cut-off corner according to your measurements.

Top-down attachment

This is done by driving 4 screws into the floor.

Lateral attachment

Lateral attachment is done with rail brackets. Lateral attachment is slightly more stable and doesn't take up any floor space. Post brackets are placed flat against the fastening surface.

Handrails with or without wall attachment

If the railing starts from a wall, you can choose to attach the rail to the wall, too. This can provide slightly more stability.

Screw for wood attachment mounted on top

If you choose attachment to a wooden substrate, screws are included for this purpose. The screw is made of hardened steel with Corrseal surface treatment for outdoor environments. The screw is equipped with a milling groove along the stem and one on the tip. This means a very low screw-in torque in harder wooden materials and minimizes cracking.

Screw for concrete attachment mounted on top

If you choose attachment to a concrete substrate, screws are included for this purpose. The screw is made of hardened steel with Corrseal treatment for outdoor environments - Corrosivity class C4. Approved for basic materials: Cracked concrete - Uncracked concrete - Hole-covered decks. Also suitable for: Solid brick - Hollow brick - Solid mexite brick - Natural stone.

Assembly videos and instructions

Our assembly videos help you by showing specific steps of the installation process. Our assembly tips and videos are adapted to each order. They're not general descriptions, rather, they directly concern your particular order.

Stainless steel parts

Since stainless steel, despite its name, isn't immune to corrosion, all stainless steel parts need to be maintained and cleaned 1-3 times a year. If the railing is installed in an area close to the sea, it may be necessary to clean and treat it more often. Use a soft cloth to clean the surfaces with lukewarm water and a mild detergent.

Wooden handrail

If the railing is outdoors, we recommend cleaning the handrail and sanding it with fine sandpaper. Treat the handrail using a preserving product such as wood oil or similar, depending on the weather conditions. Handrails installed indoors only require cleaning and light sanding. Treatment with wood oil or similar is optional.

Glass

Use a soft cloth to clean glass surfaces with window or mirror cleaning fluid. For more difficult stains, rubbing alcohol can be used. Afterwards, clean with window and mirror cleaning fluid for a second time. Do not use abrasive agents on glass.

When you're building your railing, the usage class (A+, A, B or C) gives an indication of where it's suitable to use. Classes are based on current building regulations and our own product tests, and take into account your specifications regarding railing height, section width, details, etc. They're our recommendations to help you make the right choice!

Class A+

A+ rated railings meet the Swedish Housing Authority's requirements for railings at a drop height of over 3 metres from floor level to ground level, and are therefore suitable for use in all types of residential environments, as well as public ones such as offices, restaurants and shops. Our A+ rated railings can handle loads of at least 1 kN/m, and those with glass include only safety glass that prevents personal injury in the event of impact.

Class A

A-rated railings meet the Swedish Housing Authority's requirements for railings at a drop height of over 3 metres from floor level to ground level, and are therefore suitable for use in all types of residential environments. Our A-rated railings can handle loads of at least 0.5 kN/m in line load and in cases where the railing has glass. Those with glass include only safety glass that prevents personal injury in the event of impact.

Class B

Class B railings are suitable for use in environments in which the level difference from floor to ground is 0.5-3 metres. Our B-class railings can withstand loads of at least 0.5 kN/m. Those with glass include only safety glass that prevents personal injury in the event of impact.

Class C

C-rated railings are suitable for use at ground level. Those with glass include only safety glass that prevents personal injury in the event of impact.
